MPMS Awarded a 2010 DDOT Transportation Enhancement Grant for Mount Pleasant
Mount Pleasant Main Street is happy to announce that it has won a 2010 DDOT Transportation Enhancement Grant.
Special thanks to DDOT, the Mount Pleasant Business Association and our board and professional volunteers for their time and energy developing concepts, the application and for continued work on this initiative.
The grant application was due early August 2009 with awards announced in October. MPMS recently met with DDOT to better understand the project planning and management.
DDOT will control any technical implementation, funds and vendor management in partnership with MPMS.
Grant proposal concepts are based on needs and recommendations identified in various transportation studies and neighborhood design charettes completed over the last few years in Mount Pleasant and Columbia Heights and involving consultants, local neighborhood groups and resident public forums. Of $2M of DDOT/FHA TEG awards distributed across DC, the Mount Pleasant grant award is ~$240K based on a ~$260k application budget request.
The MPMS proposal includes the following improvement areas:
- Bike and pedestrian safety and utility including new cross-walks and signs
- Streetscape and park enhancements including new landscaping and park seating
- Improved and innovative lighting in Lamont Park and along Mount Pleasant St.
MPMS will continue to consult and work with the ANC, local neighborhood groups and residents on project recommendations and time line with a public meeting with the ANC hopefully planned for January 2010.
