In 2006, Mount Pleasant Main Street was awarded a grant for $70K from DDOT's city-wide Transportation Enhancement Grant Program. The program would provide small design and functional improvements to Mount Pleasant Street and Lamont Park and was targeted to fund a technical implementation study by a local DC planning company. This money was rolled into the larger DDOT Mount Pleasant Transportation Study started in 2007 and currently in progress.
The primary goals of Mount Pleasant Transportation Study are to enhance efficiency of all modes of transportation, promote safety of vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians, and to enhance the streetscape consistent with the area. The study will also analyze the potential impact of the DC USA project in Columbia Heights on the Mount Pleasant neighborhood and make short and long term recommendations.
Steve Pinkus and Adam Hoey from MPMS sit on the steering committee with the ANC and various neighborhood groups to help coordinate communication with businesses and residents, research ideas and to supply data from charrettes and forums conducted over the last few years. Feel free to post comments to this forum or contact us directly with questions, concerns or ideas. (steve@mtpmainstreet.org or adam@mtpmainstreet.org)
